Of course this was the ONLY way [Delilah + Rayne]

They were never lucky enough to get the right key on the first try.

She immediately pulled the key out and the cabinet stop screaming. The key gets placed on the pile where the other rejects are. Delilah didn’t waste time and immediately took the next one down the line-up and tried again. No luck with the next one as another wail came from the cabinet and she had to throw that key out. Each time it screamed, more keys become agitated. Some from the rejected pile gained energy and was attempting to fly up again. Some immediately flew to her and jabbed into her hand, trying to get her to stop. She ignored it. It does hurt but nothing she couldn’t handle at all.

Most keys were stopped by Rayne, but there were simply too many and there were always a handful that target the young shaman relentlessly.

Delilah just kept trying key after key, ignoring every key that flew at her and attempt to stab her away from the cabinet. One managed to jab deep enough to bleed. It wiggled in the wound as if trying everything to deter the girl from trying out more key. Unfortunately that didn’t work, Delilah moved on to the next key again and again. Even if blood was making it hard for her to grip the keys properly, even if some managed to jab very close to her eyes, she made not a peep and fully trusting Rayne to stay safe while she continue to try each and every key that was within the line-up.

Soon some keys attempted to dive bomb the other keys in the line-up, hoping to mess up the girl’s rhythm. Still Delilah did not notice, and just continue to pick up the keys to try again.

There was only so much that Rayne could do. She kept her guns holstered because the weapon would likely only make things worse. The loud noise in such a small space combined with the fact that the keys were such small targets made the weapons practically useless in this situation. Her bare hands made better weapons, though her injury made that somewhat debatable. The keys were surprisingly sharp as well, meaning that she cut herself numerous times catching the blasted things out of the air and adding them to the ever-growing pile that was at Delilah's side.

Anger was starting to simmer just beneath the surface of her skin. No matter how hard she tried some of the keys were intent on attacking the helpless girl at her side. They poked and prodded and did their best to distract her from trying the next key in line on the lock. Each one Rayne caught was replaced by another, and another until the red-haired woman was practically growling at the keys she got and throwing them at the line of keys yet to be tried.

Two piles. One for the keys they had tried, and one for the injured ones they had yet to.

Rayne felt useless. All she could do was grab more keys out of the air, hoping that the next one would work on the lock. She couldn't even try to focus on the ones that might be most likely to unlock the cabinet because if she let up for even a moment on the ones attacking them... she knew they'd be overwhelmed by the prickling little things.

Eventually, one of the keys worked. The cabinet stopped screaming and the door swung open, revealing the glowing pocket watch. Just ticking away calmly and oblivious to the amount of blood shed for it. Or the amount of crushed and broken keys that littered around the Shaman.

“Yay!” Delilah shouted and grabbed the pocket watch. Again the skeletal hands came in and whisk them back to the foyer. She blows away the stray strands of hair that came out of her hair ribbon. Probably have to tie it all back up, they were all getting sticky with blood. Not to mention the next room they have to go through probably need her hair up if she doesn’t want to be a dead weight to Rayne. Speaking of which...

“Are you okay? It didn’t make your injuries worse right?” she asked. Completely disregarding the fact she was the bloodier of the two. To be fair the bloodiest wound were on her forehead which were caused by the keys aiming for her eyes but missed and cut open the skin shallowly. The deeper wounds were on her hand and they were all still bleeding, even her health bar was beeping for her attention. The worst was a pop-up warning her that there was an incredible amount of pain been transmitted and ask whether she would like to turn the function off. She just clicked it away like it was an annoyance.

Nothing stop her from keeping everyone around her safe. Then they could decide the mystery door first or floor-is-lava room first.
